My Story

My husband and I understand your struggle from a personal level. When our first son was 3 years old, we were told to seek support for his speech delay. Little did we know that was just the beginning. In the last 10 years he has received services for reading, writing, pretty much every other area of academics, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and we strongly considered getting him tested for Autism.

Our second child fell into the same pattern. He needed help with his speech, academic struggles, dyslexic tendencies, and hyperactivity. We had both our children in early intervention programs, IEP (Individual Education Plan) programs, extra reading support, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and any extracurricular activities that we thought were good for struggling children.

At every reevaluation and IEP meeting we asked if there was anything else we could be do. If there were any other services, we could take advantage of. The answer was always no, we were doing as much as we could. At one IEP meeting we were told, “we needed to lower our expectations or our children”. This phrase still haunts us today!

Shortly after this statement, we decided to try something new and began homeschooling. My husband and I knew our children were intelligent. Maybe they just needed to be taught differently? Homeschooling helped, but their struggles were still a big concern! We were running out of hope. We again found ourselves looking for anything that would help, even if that meant getting Autism testing. My husband and I were never in favor of

labeling our children and did not plan on medicating them. We knew that there had to be something

more we could do!

Finally, the answer we were looking for came! A friend asked if we had ever heard of Neuro-Developmental Delay (NDD)? I started researching NDD and realized this was different from anything else we had tried. It was different in a good way! The first screening questionnaire that I filled out described my children completely! I immediately found a therapist and within our first visit I knew this was the answer we were looking for.

I also knew I had to get this therapy out to other families who needed it.

The transformation in our children is anything short of a miracle! I have seen major improvements in balance and coordination, memory, language, maturity, and academic performance. I am SO glad I didn’t “lower my expectations of my children”.

At Patterns of Hope, I am now seeing the same results with the children I work with. Neuro-Developmental Delay affects the whole family! Our goal is to renew HOPE for you and help your child to have a successful future!
